System ITS w Gliwicach

The intelligent traffic control system implemented in Gliwice is one of the most modern systems in Poland and one of the first projects operating in the Upper Silesia agglomerations.. The investment consisted of three stages with a total budget of PLN 63 million.

The solution used in Gliwicach is a traffic control system adapted to specific road conditions using dynamic linear coordination or area-based adaptive control. The system operates based on data collected from multiple sources, such as:

• detectors for vehicles approaching the crossing at intersections with traffic lights
• speed detectors and counters at traffic routes
• parking space sensors
• public transport vehicle location systems with information on delays
• location systems for emergency vehicles
• meteorological stations

The collected data allows the control system to assess the current traffic situation and automatically parameterise the operation of connected enforcement devices, for example, traffic light controllers or variable message signs, to maximise traffic flow and maintain a high level of safety..

As part of the construction of ITS Gliwice powstało Centrum Sterowania Ruchem, stacje umożliwiające ważenie pojazdów w ruchu czy system łączności CB. Ponadto 160 autobusów i 90 pojazdów służb ratowniczych zostało wyposażonych w urządzenia umożliwiające ich priorytetową obsługę na skrzyżowaniach z sygnalizacją świetlną.
